Student Leadership
Academy Council
Carlton le Willows Academy Council is an elected group of students spanning from Year 7 to Year 10, consisting of role model students who embody the Willows Way.
The council aims to bring a voice to student concerns whilst liaising with members of the senior leadership team and working with Miss Orme to develop ideas for our school which students would like to see. The council has a wide range of responsibilities including:
- student voice
- charity events
- developing rewards systems and pledge rewards with staff
- helping out at parents’ evenings and other school events
The Academy Council is elected through a 2-phase application process. Students are invited to write an application form stating why they would be a good fit for the student council. These applications are then shortlisted and students invited back for round 2. These students then write anonymised manifestos to highlight what they could bring to the role. The manifestos are read out in every form group, and each student is asked to vote for the preferred manifesto for their year group. The winners of this process are then elected to be our representatives for the student council – with four representatives per year group.
Academy Council students are passionate about ensuring every student at Carlton le Willows gets their voice heard and are looking at many ways to work with the senior leadership team to make this happen.
