Overseas Visitors Enjoy 'Valuable' Visit

Carton le Willows played host to a team of university lecturers visiting the UK as part of a British Council funded scheme to improve English language teaching in Central Aisa.

The five teachers from Turkmenistan & Kyrgyzstan were in Nottingham as part of the British Council’s AELLCA programme (Accelerating English Language Learning in Central Asia) funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Organised by Head of MFL at Carlton le Willows Mrs Strumnik-Brown, following an approach from UK programme partners Nottingham Trent University, the visit gave the team the chance to see best practice in a highly regarded UK secondary school.

Said Jane Vickers, Senior Lecturer in English for Academic Purpose at NTU: “Everyone we interacted with was amazing; generously sharing their knowledge and responding to questions.  My guests were particularly delighted to have been invited into 3 classrooms to observe.

“It was a very valuable learning experience – from the signing in process, to the prospectus and GCSE pass rate banner in reception to the 1:1s taking place in quiet spaces, the inspirational artwork and behaviour messages in corridors and the classroom layout, random name generator. My guests really discovered a lot to ‘takeaway’ to  potentially implement in their home countries.”
