English awards

BUDDING poets and authors from Carlton le Willows have taken part in a Trust-wide English celebration event – winning two top awards in the process!
Nine Academy students travelled to Delta’s Education Exchange for the fourth annual English celebration event for Year 7, 8 and 9 students. These nine were the top three entries in a Trust wide poetry and short story competition, invited to enjoy a celebration of all the entries.
At the end of an event celebrating the written and spoken word, Delta’s overall winner for Year 8 was named as Carlton le Willows’ Paula with her poem ‘A Girl’s Life’ exploring gender stereotypes associated with being a girl. Stanley from Year 9 scooped his year group’s award with ‘Whispers on the Shelf’ his dystopian short story exploring the power of the written word.
Winners received a £50 shopping voucher and signed books from the guest speakers, acclaimed author Darren Simpson and world-champion word poet and free-style rapper Rob Bradley,
